Alice

Alice was born on 19 April 2019 after a normal pregnancy. Her growth was normal. But at 6 months old, the same day she received the meningococco B vaccine , she had her first convulsive seizure. We thought that it was somehow caused by the vaccine, but her doctor said that it was not possible, and most likely caused by something else.

From that day, she had a lot of tests to determine what happened. Finally, in June of 2020, 8 months after her first seizure, she was diagnosed with GRIN1 mutation. I think this one was the worst day in my life. I was scared, sad, and angry. I could not stop asking myself “why did this happen to my little Alice”.

After days of crying, I started to search for information about this rare genetic condition that I’d never heard of.

Alice has developmental delays. She can’t sit by herself but with a lot of physiotherapy she is improving her head control. We hope that one day she will be able to sit on her own.

I will do everything in my power to help Alice and all the other GRIN kids in our community.
