Cosimo

Cosimo Alessandro is a beautiful little boy with GRIN1 who lives in San Donaci, a small town in the province of Brindisi, Italy, with his family. He was born on April 4, 2017, after a normal pregnancy. However, as he grew, his parents noticed that he was not reaching the typical developmental milestones. Unlike other children his age, Cosimo cannot sit up on his own or walk.

After receiving the meningococcal B vaccine, Cosimo began experiencing his first epileptic spasms. Following the vaccination, he lost muscle tone, and although he had started to sit up, he was no longer able to do so. His struggles did not end there—he also began having feeding difficulties. Doctors told his parents that he would never be able to eat with a spoon again.

But Cosimo’s mother refused to give up. With immense love, patience, and dedication, she worked tirelessly to help him regain this ability. Thanks to her perseverance, Cosimo can now eat with a spoon again, proving that love and determination can overcome even the most difficult challenges.

His family has traveled across Italy, visiting countless hospitals and specialists, searching for answers and help. Unfortunately, no doctor has been able to provide a solution. One of the most heartbreaking challenges Cosimo faces is his frequent and unexplained crying episodes. Despite numerous tests and medical evaluations, no one has been able to understand the cause or find a way to ease his pain.

His parents continue to fight every day, hoping for progress, support, and, most of all, a better quality of life for their beloved Cosimo.
