Austin's Purpose: Together with CureGRIN

GRIA, GRID, GRIK and GRIN

Austin's Purpose

CureGRIN is pleased to join forces with Austin’s Purpose, the first charity to raise funds for GRI Disorders. Austin’s Purposenow part of CureGRIN, was set up in honor of Paul and Awilda’s son, Austin Wasielewski, who was born with a rare variant in his GRIN2A gene.

Austin’s Purpose was founded in 2015 to raise funds for research into epilepsy-related mutations in the GRIN2A gene. To date, Austin’s Purpose has raised $100,000 for the labs of Dr. Stephen Traynelis of Emory University and Dr. Hiro Furukawa of Cold Spring Harbor Lab and continues to be a supporter of CureGRIN.

Paul served on the CureGRIN board of directors.

What are GRI Disorders?

GRI Disorders are rare, genetic conditions with severe life-limiting consequences. Many GRI patients are non-verbal, unable to walk, and many cannot feed or toilet themselves. They often suffer severe and frequent seizures that are not responsive to medical therapies.
