Count Me In 2024

CureGRIN is recruiting 50 – 100 family fundraisers who will each try to raise between $1,000 and $20,000 from friends and family during this October’s Count Me In Campaign.

In just five years, CureGRIN has turbocharged the pursuit of treatments and cures for GRIN, GRIA, GRIK and GRID Disorders.

We have even bigger plans to achieve our goal of treatments and cures by the end of this decade. But we need your help!

Here’s how we’ll use those funds to achieve our goals:

  1. Helping scientists to prioritize and fund patient-centered GRI research. This includes funding research that lines up with patient priorities identified in the GRI Census and treatment priorities identified at the GRI Symposium.
  2. Partnering with pharmaceuticals to develop treatments and cures for GRI Disorders. This includes creation of our Guide to Developing Treatments and Cures for GRI Disorders and in-person meetings with key industry leaders.
  3. Advancing clinical-trial readiness across the global GRI Community. This includes collection of biosamples and identifying family priorities through the GRI Census.
  4. Championing advocacy for people with GRI and their families to government, regulators and funding agencies. Examples include our push to get ICD codes for GRI Disorders, and our upcoming Listening Session with the US Food and Drug Administration
  5. Educating and connecting the global GRI community of patient families, researchers, clinicians and industry. This includes funding regional family meetups, developing an information packet for physicians, and planning for GRICON25

Fundraising Simplified

Rare disease parents are busy! For 2024, we’re providing more options, training, prizes and support to make fundraising less complicated and more fun. We’re providing more options for you to fundraise however works best for you, whether that’s using our software to build a customized fundraising page for your child, setting up a Facebook campaign, or simply printing out a pledge sheet and collecting cash or checks.

We’ll send you CureGRIN merch for hitting different fundraising targets. You’ll also get entries into a drawing for a BIG PRIZE to be announced soon!

We’re also providing support on everything from how to set up a fundraising page to the psychology of getting over the fear of asking for donations. Check out our detailed fundraising guide, host a Count Me In discussion group on GRI Connect, and attend office hours where we can help you set up your campaign in real time.

It’s time for every GRI family to step up!

There are at least 1,500 patient families in our GRI community, but fewer than 100 have participated in fundraising campaigns. If you haven’t participated yet, this is your chance to join.

You don’t need to raise a lot to make a big difference in our search for treatments and cures.

  • $50 will pay to house a cage of GRI research mice for a month.
  • $90 will pay to collect blood from a GRI patient for research purposes.
  • $175 will pay for a PhD student to spend a full day on cure-focused GRI research.
  • $4,000 will pay to turn a patient’s blood into iPSC lines, which can be grown into Neurons or organoids (also known as mini-brains).
  •  $5,000 will pay to do functional analysis on a specific variant in a GRIA, GRIK or GRIN gene.
